  • Hi-ReS! Rebrand & Brandbook The High Resolution Fly's Eye (HiRes) is the largest cosmic ray detector, and the only air fluorescence observatory in operation in the world at the start of the 21st Century. We are the world leaders in measuring the energy spectrum, composition, and arrival direction anisotropy of Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECR).

    Of particular importance in our studies is the continuing search for a cosmic ray flux above the theoretical Greisen-Zatsepin-K'uzmin (GZK) cut-off predicted at ~6x1019 eV, which results from photo-pion production in collisions with the cosmic background microwave photons.

  • Doritos Late Night Website Featuring Rihanna Art Direction, UI Design, Web design, IA & Photo Retouching for Doritos presents Late Night with Rihanna: A world-premiere AR-based video for “Who's That Chick?” and interactive 360º degree videos from other artists around the globe.

    This project, made at Hi-ReS! London for Goodby, Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco, won a Webby People's Choice Award.

  • Tate Modern - Tacita Dean : FILM Website Website design for Tate Modern exhibition by Tacita Dean "FILM". Beyond a video introduction to each section, the page layouts are split into three panels that scroll independently of one another.     2012 Art Direction, Web Design
  • Martini Bar Website Using the same templates I'd created for the D&G Gold Restaurant, Dolce & Gabbana also required Hi-ReS! to create a site for Martini Bar, which is the bar inside their Gold Restaurant in Milan.

    Although the templates are identical, employing bespoke fonts and colour schemes give the site its own unique identity.

  • S Y Z Y G Y Rebrand & Styleguide Hi-ReS!'s parent company, Syzygy had asked us quite a while ago to think about their visual identity, which invariably kicked off discussions about the name itself.

    Still, SYZYGY is a name that perfectly encapsulates what they do and how they work (alignment of strategy, design and build, more here), but it isn't easy to spell or pronounce unless you really look at it properly once. Or twice.
The one element that ties everything together are the 3 Y's. We chose to abstract them to force you to interact with the logo and thus the name, encouraging a conversation about SYZYGY. Why are the Y's incomplete? How do you pronounce SYZYGY, and what does it mean?

    The visual universe we created around the logotype is made up of numerous elements which can be combined and changed to create an ever-changing identity. Elements from the same family, albeit different shapes in different colours, are used in the identity of another of Syzygy Group's companies, unique digital, and we also created a "real-life" spin on the Universe for our own Hi-ReS! branding.

  • Kick-Ass Movie Website Leading the project - Wireframes, Art Direction & much of the design, holding regular conference calls with the U.S. client, directing a team of developers and a wee bit of photo-retouching.

    The site integrates Facebook Connect, Away 3D and Flash to deliver an innovative and engaging user experience, including a sophisticated Superhero Creator, the dynamic interactive gallery wall, and the "Personalised Movie Trailer", which inserts the user's hero into the Kick-Ass Movie Trailer.

  • Unique Digital Rebrand As we were rebranding Syzygy, it became apparent that for us to look like a group, we needed to re-design all the group companies, including Hi-ReS! and unique.

    Although the unique logo was re-designed not too long ago, we felt it was important to align it more closely to the new designs of the other group logos by using a similar technique of abstracting the type of the original logo, which was written in DIN. The result is a logo type which is still readable, but is now actually “unique”.

    We use elements from the family of shapes that make up the Syzygy Universe with a different colour treatment.

  • Snickers Mr.T "More Nuts Gym" Website & Advertising Website to house 6 new ads created by AMV. Project lead - Wireframes & IA, Art Directing / Planning the shoot, Client Presentations, directing a team of designers & developers and lots of hands-on design myself.

    Directing all the creative within the content rich site, including the "Mr.T Yourself" engagement tool & the 80's-style Arcade Games. Also leading the creative & production of the supporting ad campaign.

  • Starbucks Shared Planet Design & Animatics Over the years, Starbucks' white cup has become a concern among some of their customers due to recycling challenges.   • Albion Rebrand Evolving as a growing agency, Albion wanted a new Identity to support this. In addition to designing the new logo, i worked with our Brand Specialist to define and create 5 briefs we commissioned artist Anna Garforth, for accompanying compositions that iconically illustrate Albion's brand values.

    Departing from Albion's previous "Jolly Good Ship" image, yet retaining the same spirit of optimism and eccentricity, the new Branding focuses on "Global Thinking" and plays with the idea of old meets new. Rolled out through print (stationery), online & the office interior.

  • eBay Guess What? Campaign & Toolkit One of a few campaigns I worked on for eBay during my role as Head of Digital at Albion.

    eBay's brief was clear - the main campaign line had to be flexible enough to work on two levels - 1) as an attention-grabbing engagement tool, and 2) as a functional price delivery mechanic, when required. We came up with "Guess What?", a phrase which works well for both of these approaches; eg. 1) Guess What? Christmas is coming! and 2) Guess What? All these gifts are under £10!

    After signing off on Albion's concept, I then worked closely with eBay's Digital Production Agency FEED to create and deliver this Christmas campaign and toolkit, showing eBay's other design agencies how to apply the elements.

  • The Queen's Christmas Message Art Direction & Creative Development of the Albion 2008 Christmas Card, a website that enables you to create your very own "Queen's Christmas Speech" and send it to your friends.

    After consulting a Legal Specialist (Google), we decided it was probably best to use a Queen Impersonator. (our initial plan was to splice former speeches for viewers to create their own mash-ups)

    Fortunately, this meant we could include words & phrases that The Queen *might not* have previously included in her speeches, and that we could place her in a variety of eclectic settings, eg. in the pub or on the loo.

    It was among only a handful of Agency Xmas Cards given the thumbs-up that year, by the likes of Metro, Brand Republic and Crackberry.com.

  • QueenOnline.com Queen have the largest Fan Club Membership in the world, and their fans are passionate & active as an online community. So it seemed only right to create a site that felt like a celebration of the band, rich with photography and with extra access & content for the community.

  • Betfair Live Social Betting Mobile App Art Direction of these proof-of-concept screens, fusing the new Betfair Brand Look & Feel with (for this case study) the iPhone GUI.

    A Mobile application to let friends bet agaist each other on sport matches, for phase one concentrating on Football only. Working out an uncomplicated user journey, that takes advantage of the tactile swipe & shake functionality on the iPhone.

  • Damscray - Blot Method EP Artwork A Southern blot is a method routinely used in molecular biology for detection of a specific DNA sequence in DNA samples. Southern blotting combines transfer of electrophoresis-separated DNA fragments to a filter membrane and subsequent fragment detection by probe hybridization. The method is named after its inventor, the British biologist Edwin Southern.Other blotting methods (i.e, Western blot, Northern blot, Eastern blot, Southwestern blot) that employ similar principles, but using RNA or protein, have later been named in reference to Edwin Southern's name. As the technique was eponymously named, Southern blot is capitalized as is conventional for proper nouns. The names for other blotting methods may follow this convention, by analogy.

  • Nando's "Pop Your Peri" Pitch Creative The brief: to get people to visit Nando's for the first time. Knowing Nando's aren't shy to a bit of cheeky advertising, we invented the provocative challenge, inviting people to "Pop Your Peri"

    A mobile Nando's Tour Bus travels the UK's summer festivals and events, offering Peri-Virgins their first taste of Peri for free - if they pass a simple lie-detector test of course.

    For those who can't get to the tour, there's a similar challenge online - here, users record & upload a video "oath" that they've never before popped their peri, and are then left to the fate of other site visitors to decide if they are fibbing or not.

    In an Art Director / Copywriter team, we came up with pitch concepts spanning Digital, Press, Ambient, Outdoor, and In-store. Sadly, we didn't win this pitch. But we should've.

  • Accurist - "The British Public Clock" Tour & Website This project celebrated Accurist's British Heritage and placed the British Public at the heart of the campaign.

    Accurist approached us with an issue they were having; their contract as sponsors of the 123 Speaking Clock was about to end, was there any way we could make something positive to come from this story? Our creative response was to celebrate the relocating of the speaking clock to online, positioning the previous telephone version as outdated as Yellow Pages phone books, and making the new clock website feel more relevant, and literally "the voice of the people".

    Accurist travelled the UK, recording members of the British Public reading out a number, in front of a variety of British settings. The website evolved over 3 phases, with user-generated content increasingly becoming the central focus as the phases unfolded.
